Thank you for your interest in our products. We greatly appreciate that you're consciously considering their origins and the conditions in which they are manufactured. We'd like to provide you with some background information about our production and origins.

Production and origin

We are regularly asked whether our products with a 'Dutch' look are actually produced in the Netherlands.

Our production facilities are spread across various countries and continents. Some of our products are produced in Europe—for example, our conditioner, firelighters, and firelighters. We also work with high-quality suppliers outside of Europe. Think of our top-quality charcoal and briquettes, sourced from South Africa.

A significant portion of our cast iron and metal products are manufactured in carefully selected factories in China. Here, we work closely with local partners who monitor quality and compliance with our production standards daily. We value fair and responsible production and therefore consciously choose reliable production locations.

Genuine Dutch

"Genuine Dutch," or "Truly Dutch." We'd like to explain this concept using a bit of our history.

The very first product we developed as The Windmill was the Dutch Oven—a classic cooking utensil with Dutch roots. This cast-iron pot on legs has been in use since the 17th century and was brought to America by Dutch colonists. The oven quickly became popular for its versatility and robustness, especially for outdoor cooking.

We felt it was time to give this quintessential Dutch classic a fresh new look. This resulted in a complete line of durable cast iron cookware – designed in the Netherlands, with a passion for craftsmanship and tradition. What began with a single Dutch Oven has now grown into a complete collection under the label The Windmill Genuine Dutch Cast Iron .

Designed in Holland

You'll see the "Designed in Holland" designation on our products. This refers to the Dutch design, development, and refinement of our products – based on the authentic Dutch Oven. We've further refined the original concept and adapted it to today's requirements, creating the ideal cast iron pan for outdoor cooking.

So, "Designed in Holland" is not the same as "Made in Holland." It's about the Dutch origins of the design and the artisanal approach that underpins it.
