Recipe for Caring for a Cast Iron Pan

Supplies:

  • Wire brush
  • Mix of 50% vinegar and 50% water (about 300 ml)
  • Cleaning pad
  • Brush
  • Boiling water
  • Oven
  • The Windmill Seasoning / Cast Iron Conditioner
  • Your cast iron pan full of rust

Method:

Start by cleaning the pan with the wire brush to remove old residue

Use the brush to coat the pan with the vinegar-water mixture. Let this mixture sit for half an hour to help loosen any stubborn dirt.

After half an hour, reapply the vinegar and water mixture and scrub the pan clean with the cleaning pad.

Rinse the pan with boiling water to remove any vinegar residue. Apply the vinegar and water mixture again and use the cleaning pad to scrub thoroughly. Let the mixture sit for fifteen minutes. Rinse the pan thoroughly with boiling water.

Place the pan in the preheated oven at 180 degrees Celsius and let it dry for 20 minutes.

Remove the pan from the oven and rub it with the seasoning cast iron conditioner for a protective layer.

Place the pan back in the oven for another 20 minutes to allow the conditioner to work properly. Your pan is ready for use again!

A sparkling, like-new cast iron pan! With a little care and the right treatment, your pan can last a lifetime. Did you find this guide helpful?
