Preparation:
- Sift the flour and mix in the salt. Add the yeast, sugar, milk, egg, and melted butter. Knead the dough for 10 minutes and then form it into a ball.
- Place the dough ball in a lightly greased mixing bowl and cover with a cloth. Let it rest for about 1.5 to 2 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
- Dust your work surface with flour and roll out the dough to about 1 cm thick. Cut out large circles and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Then cut out small circles from the large circles. Cover the donuts with greased plastic wrap. After 30-60 minutes, the doughnuts will have risen and doubled in size.
- While the dough is rising, you can prepare the cooking surface. Heat a generous amount of sunflower oil to 180 degrees in the barbecue pan or Dutch oven. Use a thermometer suitable for liquids to determine whether the correct temperature has been reached.
- Bake the donuts for about 5 minutes, turning them over halfway through. After baking, drain the donuts on paper towels and sprinkle with sugar or other toppings to taste.
