Cheddar sauce? Easy! How? Read on!
Prefer a regular cheese sauce? Replace the cheddar with grated Gouda cheese.
Ingredients
- 150ml milk
- 100g cheddar, grated
- 15g flour, sifted
- 15g unsalted butter
- Salt/pepper to taste
- Optional: 1 Jalapeño pepper, sliced or diced
Extra needed
- Saucepan
- Wooden spoon or silicone spatula
Preparation method
- Melt the butter in a saucepan over low heat. Don't let it brown.
- Add the flour and stir well. It will now form a lumpy mixture called a roux. Let this warm for 1-2 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Add the milk and stir well.
- Finally, add the cheese and season with salt and pepper.
- Looking for a little more spice? Then you can add jalapeño peppers to the cheese sauce.
If the sauce is too thick, add a splash of milk and stir until it's absorbed.
