Ingredients
- 1 kg waxy potatoes
- 125 g bacon cubes
- 125 g bacon slices
- 400 ml cooking cream
- 200 ml milk
- 1 large onion
- Pepper / salt
- 1 sprig of thyme
- 0.5 tsp nutmeg
- 2 teaspoons of spice mix for potato gratin
- 200-250 g mixed grated cheese (mozzarella and cheddar)
Extra needed
- Skillet
- Second skillet, pan or oven dish
- Oven OR other heat source that allows you to heat above and below.
Preparation method
- Peel the potatoes and cut them into thin slices.
- Chop the onion and fry it in the skillet. Fry the bacon cubes along with it.
- Add cream, milk and herbs, simmer gently and season to taste.
- Now add the potato slices to the cream and milk mixture and simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Line a second pan with the bacon slices. Add the thickened milk and cream mixture to the pan. Sprinkle the cheese evenly over the top and cover the pan, or bake uncovered.
- Bake for about 50 minutes at 200 degrees Celsius. Check the gratin regularly. When the cheese is golden brown, let it cool slightly and serve.
