Frying with cast iron works well, but it is important to keep a close eye on the temperature and work in a controlled manner.
We do not recommend frying over a campfire or the like.
For convenience we use our Camp Stove in combination with briquettes and a high Dutch Oven or BBQ pan . Use a thermometer suitable for liquids and capable of measuring temperatures up to at least 200 degrees Celsius. A slotted spoon or frying basket is also handy to have on hand.
Most dishes are baked at around 175°C-180°C. The table below is for reference. Heat the fat or oil over the briquettes until it reaches the desired temperature, and then bake!
| Frying | Temperature |
| Pre-fry fries | 130°C-140°C |
| Frying fries | 175°C |
| Snacks such as croquettes and cheese soufflés | 175°C |
| Doughnuts, donuts, churros | 180°C |
| Prawn crackers and cassava | 180°C |
And don't flush the grease down the toilet afterwards. :-)
